Gender Sensitivity – Girl Up

Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative, focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. Girl Up operates a global network of regional affiliates impacting 270,000 girls and youth leaders in 155 countries and all 50 U.S. states, developing transformative leaders who advance gender justice worldwide. In 2010, Girl Up was founded by the United Nations Foundation (UNF) as the first-of-its-kind initiative dedicated to supporting adolescent girls’ education, health, and safety. Since then, Girl Up has grown to become a global movement that engages, trains, and mobilizes girls and young people of all identities to be leaders.

Girl Up Club members are powerhouses for gender justice. Through education, fundraising, advocacy, and service, youth leaders around the world develop the leadership skills necessary to accelerate social change and create a meaningful impact in their communities. They commit to supporting young leaders in their passionate action for social change and seek feedback from our global community to ensure accountability in maintaining our values.

GirlUp Crusader (GUC) is a club based at Bal Bharati Public School, Dwarka. Our mission is to impact the lives of all gender equality supporters in India. This year we are interested in tackling gender-based violence (GBV) in our community; our top two goals are to:

  1. Organize five club activities to educate not only the members but also our society about GBV in our community.
  2. Fundraise for our local Safeway House.

Our mission is to end gender discrimination and educate the youth and create awareness about these crucial topics such as: female hygiene, male hygiene, mental health, gender equality, equal opportunities in STEM etc.

Our objective to raise awareness about these topics is,

    1. Mental Health:
  • To throw light on the importance of mental health in academic success and personal growth.
  • Strategies for stress management, resilience building, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
    1. Gender Equality:
  • Exploring societal norms and stereotypes that keeps gender inequality in existence.
  • Promoting discussions on the importance of equal opportunities for all genders.
  • Empowering students to be advocates for gender equality in their communities.
    1. Male and Female Hygiene:
  • Informative sessions on maintaining personal hygiene for both males and females.
  • Addressing common misconceptions and promoting healthy practices.
  • Encouraging open conversations about hygiene to foster a supportive environment.

We at GirlUp Crusaders look forward to bringing a positive change in the society.
